ESL - Products Overview - Herbert Retail

In store electronic media offering merchandising flexibility and increased profitability

Herbert Retail offers a range of electronic displays to meet your in-store display requirements. From the latest dot matrix solutions to cost effective segment based displays, all managed from a single infrastructure and software solution.

We provide ESLs in different versions, shape, design and with different functionalities designed to meet the different needs of each of your stores. The labels operate on exchangeable lithium batteries. There are labels for use on the shelf edge, for use in frozen-food and fresh-food displays, for so-called peg-hook products, as well as larger labels for fruit and vegetable sections, deli counters and gondola ends.

ESL – enabling in-store merchandising on demand

Until now in store merchandising has been limited in its responsiveness to changing market and consumer dynamics and is generally reactive, rather than adaptive. Merchandising campaigns are measured, at best, in days and often run for a week or a month.
ESL provides the ability to implement an adaptive merchandising strategy within every store based on geography, demographic and competition. Of these decision points both geography and, to an extent competition, are static but store demographics will change based on time of day and day of the week.

Retailers are therefore missing an opportunity to tune in-store merchandising to their competitive advantage.

Implementing ESL will allow retailers to achieve significant financial benefits.

  • A recent study found that for the retail industry, a 1% increase in price without a corresponding drop in volume can increase profits by 11% or greater. This can only be achieved by implementing price optimisation strategies which need to be delivered on demand in response to changing market conditions.
  • Improved waste management using adaptive pricing strategies can result in a significant reduction in lost revenue and help retailers meet the increasing demands of both consumers and legislation to reduce waste.
  • Improved cross-sell and up-sell strategies can have a considerable impact on volume and increase the size of a customer’s basket.
  • Integrated merchandising strategies enable a store to take full advantage of promotions and offers to the relevant audience at the relevant time throughout the day.
  • Improved operational process reduce costs associated with merchandising and ensure that situations such as ‘out of stock’ can be handled to minimise loss of revenue.
