As retail merchandising gets more sophisticated and increasingly effective the demand for flexible and extremely legible electronic labels grows.

DotMatrix displays use a new display technology called bistable, which requires very limited power to make changes to the display and requires no power to retain images on the screen which means the battery life is extended substantially.

The electronic display contains an electronic liquid powder which aims to generate greater brightness and a broader viewing angle than comparable LCDs. Full pixel based images can be displayed, also termed "all point addressable".

Bistable displays are perfectly suited for use as retail store signage. The power efficiency that a bistable display can bring to an ESL is significant, since the wireless display has no access to an outside power source, but must have a shelf autonomy in excess of 5 years.

The technology allows the complete reproduction of a paper label, including product name, logo, bar code and other images and any other data. Also, the complete display flexibility eliminates any risk of regulatory changes in product display at the shelf edge.
