February 2009 – Herbert Retail, a leading supplier of weighing, packaging and labelling solutions to grocery and other retailers, has set a new standard in the marketplace for successfully gaining ISO 22000 accreditation for its manufacturing, servicing and operating systems and processes. Herbert is the first equipment producer in the world to achieve the internationally recognised food safety management standard, which covers the entire 'Farm to Fork' cycle and is a quality benchmark for all participants in the food supply chain.
Herbert Retail's management and control procedures were independently assessed by BSI Management Systems to certify that its equipment is optimally designed, manufactured, installed and serviced, reducing to a minimum the risk of transferring food-borne infection to the end consumer.
Herbert Group Quality Manager, Julian Hope, commented: “ We believe it is essential to assure our customers that best in class systems and processes are in place to reduce any hygiene risks to an absolute minimum. Having the system independently assessed and accredited ensures we are always vigilant and at the forefront of best practice.”
The drive to attain ISO 22000 certification required Herbert to demonstrate compliance for its products with all applicable European food safety and hygiene regulations, in many cases working with safety teams within its retail customers to design out potential problem issues.
