Herbert Retail are delighted to announce their runners up position for Environment Achievement in the 2009 EEF Future Manufacturing Awards for the South East of England.
The EEF Environmental Achievements category is designed to showcase the UK's best performing companies in terms of improvements made to operational efficiency and reduction in environmental impact and or carbon footprint of the business operations. With more than 300 entries, competition for this prestigious award was fierce, with Herbert Retail beating a number of large household names to achieve second place.
Speaking of the award, Herbert Retail's Envorinment Manager Julian Hope commented,
"This is a fantastic achievement for all of us, it shows that when it comes to our consideration for the environment, we are amongst the 'bravest, boldest and best in our industry', and punching far above our weight. It was a proud moment when we won, but it all felt a bit unreal - we had no idea we could beat such stiff competition. Special credit goes to our Green Team and their hard work in helping us achieve this consistent level of performance"
Julian and some of the Herbert Retail team travelled to the Awards evening at the Mercedes-Benz World conference centre in Surrey to collect the award, our second for Environmental Achievement.
Earlier, Herbert Retail were announced winners of the Environmental Award at the Chamber of Commerce CB9 Business Awards at Chilford Hall, Linton.
Examples of Herbert Retail's progress in environmental achievement include:
• A reduction in ladfill waste by more than 80%
• Company-wide Carbon Emission reductions of 22%
• End-of-life product recycling of 70%
• RoHS compliance
• Local Community projects
